Inspired by the classic charm of Italian typography, I conceptualised a brand identity that both references the historical Commedia dell'arte origins of Gianduja, dating back to the 16th century, as well as slick yet playful Art Deco Italian design, to develop a premium, ethical chocolate brand, worthy of gifting, and worthy of more than Kraft-paper sustainability aesthetics. Embracing a bold, charming-with-a-touch-of-whimsy visual identity that catches the eye (sustainability-minded or not), and captures the heart of all those who receive a thoughtfully-designed box, Dario Gianduja is a brand that is rooted in Italian history & culture, yet is blazing a trail in business integrity, meaningful gifting and a whole lot of love.
The name ‘Dario’ was chosen due to its meaning as “the upholder of the good”, which in this case reflects the brand’s promise to uphold transparent, responsible supply chain practices and ingredients, as well as the endeavour to delight customers and their loved ones; with little touches such as the blank space left on the gift box, encouraging hand-written messages of love (to yourself or others).
All of this, wrapped up by the tagline: “con amore” - often used by composers to signify playing with tenderness, but which literally translates to ‘with love’.
