• Re-design an existing album sleeve, for vinyl format (front, back & inside jacket)

• Must heavily feature an analogue (hand-made) design component on the front.

• Aim to enhance the effectiveness of the album cover design in communicating the music.

What the new design will hope to achieve:

• A refresh, that will modernise and refine the design, while still keeping a nostalgic zest of the late 90s.

• Allow the album to stand alone, without necessarily being selected for its’ ties to the film ‘Love Jones’.

• Provide greater feelings of depth/richness, groove and sensuality, which embody the music.

Main Objective:

• An economic design, which highlights typography, and a hero graphic/image. Minamalistic yet thoughtful, uses variation in scale, and adds an unexpected fun edge to an otherwise sophisticated design.

This design was a very iterative process; however, as soon as I got the acrylic paint out, stuff started to flow, literally. The front cover artwork was a first attempt experiment, but it ended up effectively embodying the mood of the album.

This was photographed, and minor touch-ups to the black metal surface were made to polish the final piece.
