Vintage-inspired Magazine Ads: circa 1970s.

* PASSION PROJECT

graphic / editorial / layout / photo editing

[ 2024 ]

  • During a day that I was particularly sad about not having lived through the 70s, I decided to design some magazine advertisements inspired by those from the best era of aspirational, clever & amusing print advertising.

  • It started with the photos (taken from Pinterest - please share credits if found) that I found personally inspiring. Then, I paired them with a fitting tagline - one being a Michael Jackson lyric, the other creating a double meaning of a common saying.

    Photos were edited to create a more film-like look, with 'bloomed' highlights, added texture & pulled focus.

    • a fun exercise in creating vintage effects digitally

    • practise of editorial layouts which rely most heavily on image & slogan, rather than complex grid structure.
